SiteSearch Indexer is an inexpensive yet effective way to add search capabilities to your website. Basically, it is a program that the web author can use to generate a searchable index of their web site. This searchable index is in the form of a javascript file that gets utilized by the search results page and suppport files included with SiteSearch Indexer. Because the resultant search is executed via client-side javascript, there is no load placed on the web server and searching will work either over the web or even in server-less environments like CD-ROM, hard disk or floppy disk. The SiteSearch Indexer program itself can be run from the developer's workstation and requires no software installation on the web server. Just install the program to your PC and run it whenever you make changes to your web site's content. The SiteSearch Indexer program itself does not need to be uploaded to your web site, just the resulting javascript file that it generates ("searchIndex.js"), and the supporting search results page. |
